We're starting to look at rolling Macs out into our environment - a mix of MacBook Air for our sales / travelling folk, and Pros for our engineering operations (and IT, because we get the fun stuff.
Our current fleet of Wintel machines is Lenovo, which means we have comprehensive (if plasticky and rubbish) options for people needing multiple connectivity options, not to mention keeping our desks looking clean and tidy (from an equipment perspective at least) with docking stations / port replicators / etc.
I found Landingzone.net (I've read the previous thread on Ars when these were announced - general widespread derision from most Mac users) who make a variety of docks for use with the different models, and have purchased myself one for the MacBook Pro. My boss has one for the Air, but doesn't yet have a laptop to use with it, though they seem relatively similar.
The dock I have seems pretty solid. It's not quite as 'snap in simple' as Lenovo, but nothing will be. It comes with a thunderbolt port, HDMI port, as well as 2x USB 2.0 and 3x USB3.0 ports, taking up from the Mac: 1x thunderbolt, 1x HDMI, 2xUSB. There's also Gigabit Ethernet.
This works great for my dual-screen requirements, but I've noticed a few niggles, seemingly centered around the USB ports. The keyboard seems to skip and occasionally spoof key inputs. It's a Microsoft keyboard which I know are pretty solid. Today I had an external HDD hooked up to transfer some files, and whilst it was plugged in, my wireless mouse (connects to a USB dongle) performed horribly. What is the best video converter for mac. Slow, skipping, not registering clicks. As soon as I removed the disk, all was fine.
Knowing that some of our engineers are 'power users', I don't want to just suggest the Landingzone because it's pretty neat if there are potential problems with it, so I'm wondering what solutions others have found to the challenges of Macs in the workplace.
